Giant Hand Art

September 27, 2005

giant hand artI would never have guessed there would be enough examples of Giant hand art to fill a gallery, but here’s what I know…

Datajunkie has a small gallery of advertising images from decades past featuring larger-than-life hands.

hot dog artHot dog!

The Nippon Ham Group hosts a gallery of hot dog art on their site. Actually, it’s more than just a gallery. There are instructions on how to create roughly a dozen little hot dog creatures. If you can’t read Japanese characters, don’t worry. There are video clips as well for some of the animals, such as the hippo.

Tracking Artworks with GPS

September 21, 2005

A couple of silly artists run a funny experiment.

They called the experiment Art Tracking Module 002, named for the Trimtrac GPS transponder the hid behind the piece, which let them watch the art move all the hell over the city for three days before finally landing at a lumberyard.

liquid photoSome amazing photos of liquid.

Liquid Sculpture is the process of creating shapes by dropping and splashing water, or other liquids. These sculptures are then photographed, since they last only a few thousandths of a second. Creating and capturing these engaging forms requires careful manipulation of the materials and precise control of the lighting and timing.

MoMA “Unofficial Guides”

September 16, 2005

Check out the unofficial guides to the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art)! They are a really cool and unique view on some of that modern art crap everyone doesn’t know how to interpret.

I especially like the ones with the slightly off-color, sexually-charged dialogues between students and teacher.

Big *ss Painting

September 13, 2005

My plans do not include a trip to Beijing, but this giant painting which warrants a quarter million dollar casing, would be something to see…

Engineers at the Beijing University of Technology have built a 16-metre-long case weighing five tonnes and costing two million yuan, about $247,000 US.

BoKlok – It’s not what you think it is…

September 11, 2005

Boing Boing’s article on Ikea ‘flat pack’ housing is as good as any place to start. This won’t be a high brow view of art. My views and opinions on art is on the platter. This blog will most likely never be reviewed as ‘deeply thoughtful’. It may favour the surreal or the silly, like words that sound funny, like BoKlok…

which roughly translated means smart living

So it begins.
